s(t)imulate, 2023

s(t)imulate is an archive of 100 AI generated images about my experiences with psychedelics. there are 21 signatures, each referring to an individual trip.

the images are printed using the risograph, and each signature (individual trip) is ranked by the intensity of the experience. the most intense trips are printed with four col-ors on the risograph. then in descending order of intensity from four-color to one-color.

i cataloged each trip by creating bullet point lists with the most potent memories i have from the experience. i then uploaded one bullet point text to an AI generator which produced the images. the first page of each signature shows the month and year that the experience occurred. the final page of each signature includes the bullet point list of the most potent memories of that trip, which were used to generate the images within the signature.

there are two color-ways, and two paper colors. so, the 100 image book has been printed four times. once in cornflower, fluorescent pink, mint and yellow risograph ink on white paper. once in cornflower, fluorescent pink, mint and yellow risograph ink on black paper. once in aqua, light lime, sunflower and violet risograph ink on white paper. once in aqua, light lime, sunflower and violet risograph ink on black paper.

i wanted the images to look psychedelic in their own right. the pages are 2in x 2in. i wanted the book to be a field guide, that is easily portable, and able to be brought to future psychedelic experiences. the books are presented in a plastic bag, like you would receive drugs in.

the title of the project — s(t)imulate — is written in sharpie on the front of each plastic bag, like a strain name would be written for the drugs inside. this archive is a love letter to some of my most cher-ished memories, and offers a shared visual representation of experiences that only live within my head.
